How does truSculpt iD compare to CoolSculpting?

Do you have stubborn fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise? Body contouring could be right for you. Noninvasive body contouring targets and removes fat cells without the need for liposuction or surgical tummy tucks. Two of today’s most popular options include truSculpt iD by Cutera and CoolSculpting by Allergan. For help determining which one is best for you, consider how truSculpt iD and CoolSculpting compare.

What is CoolSculpting vs. truSculpt iD?

CoolSculpting and truSculpt iD are both effective, FDA-approved body contouring methods. CoolSculpting was the first non-surgical fat removal technique of its kind, with FDA clearance granted in 2010. It uses a method called cryolipolysis to freeze and remove fat cells in targeted areas.

truSculpt iD is a monopolar RF personalized body sculpting platform that treats the subcutaneous fat layer, resulting in long-lasting fat reduction. “Hot sculpting”, as it’s sometimes referred to, radiofrequency technology provides customizable and permanent fat reduction. It damages and melts fat cells, allowing the body to flush them away as waste. truSculpt ID was FDA-cleared in 2018.

Comparing truSculpt iD vs. CoolSculpting

truSculpt iD surpasses CoolSculpting in every way. Just take a look at this head-to-head comparison:

Technique & Treatment Time

truSculpt iD uses 6 flexible heating pods that can be applied to any part of the body to personalize the treatment. You can treat several areas at the same time. Results can be seen six to 12 weeks after a single, 15-minute treatment session. Usually, 1 or 2 sessions are needed to achieve the best results.

CoolSculpting uses predefined molds that don’t always fit properly. It also takes three 35-minute sessions to achieve results.

Comfort Level & Recovery Time

truSculpt iD requires no anesthesia and no downtime. Most patients describe the experience as similar to a hot stone massage. After the procedure, you can expect some sensitivity and redness, but you can resume your daily activities almost immediately.

CoolSculpting is less comfortable. Patients report a pulling or tugging sensation, accompanied by pinching or cramping. Treatments are also intensely cold and may cause bruising, stinging, tenderness, aching, itching, or sensitivity.

Treatment Effectiveness

Both body contouring treatments have a high success rate, leading to an average 24 to 25 percent fat reduction. However, fewer patients are eligible for CoolSculpting, and treatment areas are limited. CoolSculpting also does nothing to tighten sagging skin, which can worsen after fat removal.

truSculpt stimulates collagen production, which helps tighten and tone the treatment area.

truSculpt iD is appropriate for people with less skin elasticity, tattoos, and a body mass index (BMI) over 30. truSculpt iD is also approved for use in a wide range of treatment areas.
