What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive treatment designed to reduce the appearance of imperfections, including acne scars, uneven skin tone or texture, and wrinkles. Titan Medical Aesthetics offers this procedure to allow our patients to counteract anxieties stemming from the state of their skin. The treatment uses lasers to exfoliate layers of dead and damaged skin cells to reveal the softer, younger-looking skin underneath. Do I Qualify for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
This treatment is not recommended for patients with dark skin tones or active acne outbreaks. As such, it is best used by those with relatively fair skin. However, patients with darker skin tones can set up a consultation to discuss alternative treatment options that will be safer for the long-term health of their skin.
Laser skin resurfacing can be used to treat the following problems:
- Sun-damaged skin
- Age spots
- Acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Redness
- Pigmentation spots
- Scaly patches
- Rough skin texture
What is the procedure for laser skin resurfacing?
Titan Medical Aesthetics offers different laser skin resurfacing options. We currently utilize the Cutera xeo® device for laser genesis, and we are proud to announce we now have Cutera's SECRET PRO CO2 laser! We are the ONLY aesthetic office in Massachusetts that has this wonderful technology.
Before the procedure begins, a topical anesthetic may be applied to the targeted areas in order to decrease your skin sensitivity. The laser will then be placed on the skin and slowly guided over the targeted areas as the laser removes layers of old, damaged skin while encouraging the production of collagen. Depending on the severity of your skin tone or texture, the device can be set on one of several settings that determines the intensity of the laser.
What is the Recovery Process for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Patients will be permitted to return home immediately following the treatment.
Treatment downtime varies depending on the type of laser we are using as well as the type of procedure we are performing. All of this will be reviewed with the patietn during the initial consultation.
It is important to avoid prolonged exposure to UV rays in the days and weeks following laser skin resurfacing. If you must go outside, remember to use a high SPF sunscreen and reapply it regularly. If/When the skin begins to peel, patients should refrain from picking at it in order to allow the skin to heal naturally. Picking at the skin could result in scarring or further damage to the area. After 2 – 3 weeks, the recovery process should be complete and the skin should be noticeably smoother and softer. A good post procedure skincare routine is extremely important and will also be reviewed with you during the consultation as well as at the time of your procedure.
